Bajrang Punia starts 26-day training camp in Moscow ahead of busy season; SAI approves Rs 7.53 Lakh for the trip

Tokyo Olympic Games bronze medalist Bajrang Punia arrived in Moscow today for a 26-day preseason training camp, scheduled until January 21, 2022.

“This is my first training camp after the Olympics and I hope it will be a very good camp,” said Bajrang from Russia. “I chose Russia because its wrestlers win the most medals at the Olympic Games and at the World Championships. I will benefit from training with experienced wrestlers here.

The Olympic Mission Cell (MOC) of the Ministry of Youth and Sports approved his trip at an overall cost of Rs. 7.53 lakh. Jitender and Anand Kumar accompanied Bajrang as a training partner and physiotherapist respectively. Bajrang is expected to compete in international competitions including UWW ranking events, the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham as well as the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

“I have to participate in the Ranking Series in Italy and Turkey in February, then the Asian Championships in Mongolia in April. I will do my best because my goal is to change the color of my medal in Paris 2024 ”, added Bajrang.
