4.9 earthquake April 20 03:44 (GMT +5)

A shallow earthquake of magnitude 4.9 was reported early in the morning near Rasht, Republican subordination, Tajikistan.
According to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), the earthquake struck on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 3:44 a.m. local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones because they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter and depth of the quake could be revised in the coming hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies release their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the RaspberryShake Citizen Seismograph Network which also listed the quake at magnitude 4.9. A third agency, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), reported the same magnitude 5.1 quake.
Based on preliminary seismic data, the quake was likely felt by many people in the epicenter area. It must not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling off shelves, glass breaking, etc.
At Rasht (pop. 10,800) located 22 km from the epicenter, the earthquake should have been felt as light tremors.
Weak tremors could have been felt at Novobod (pop. 5,400) located 39 km from the epicenter, Roghun (pop. 7,700) at 64 km, Obigarm (pop. 10,000) at 80 km and Karakenja (pop. 2,900) at 88 km.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if these change and will follow up if other major earthquake news becomes available.
