To celebrate The Last of Us Day (formerly known as Outbreak Day), the team at Naughty Dog released the first image from HBO’s The Last of Us TV series. Quite cleverly, they used the same over-the-shoulder view found in the game to make the image look like it was pulled from The Last of Us.
As you can see, Joel and Ellie look a lot like the characters in the game, at least from the back where you can see their backpacks. Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckman, who works on the TV show, tweeted “When I first saw them on set in full costume, I thought, âHoooooooly shit! It’s Joël & Ellie!! “
It was in March 2020 that Naughty Dog and HBO confirmed that a series based on The Last of Us would be created. Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin are working together to adapt the game to viewers.
Kantemir Balagov will direct the HBO pilot of The Last of Us. His name may not be familiar, but he has had some success with his other projects. They include the Russian film Beanpol, which is set in Leningrad in 1945. The city is in ruins and among it are two women trying to find their way, a pretty apocalyptic storyline and its aftermath and thematically similar in some ways to The Last of Us. . O
HBO and Naughty Dog aim to stay true to the original vision and brought in Gustavo Santaolalla, the composer of The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II. When the show was commissioned, the project managers had the following to say. In a statement, Neil Druckmann said:
âFrom the first time I sat down to speak with Craig, I was also blown away by his approach to storytelling, his love and deep understanding of The Last of Us. With Chernobyl, Craig and HBO created a chef. – tense, heartbreaking and emotional work. I couldn’t think of better partners to bring The Last of Us story to life as a TV show.
Craig Mazin also released a statement and said:
Neil Druckmann is without a doubt the best storyteller working in the video game industry, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus. Having the chance to adapt this breathtaking piece of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I am very honored to do so in partnership with Neil.
