Juventus bought Weston McKennie from Schalke for € 18.5million ($ 22.3million), the Serie A club announced on Wednesday, ending the US midfielder’s loan to make the transfer permanent.
In a statement, Juve said an additional 6.5 million euros would be paid to Schalke “on the fulfillment of given conditions during the term of the contract”.
Juve added that McKennie had signed a new contract which signed him to the Italian champions until the end of June 2025.
McKennie, 22, joined Juve from German Bundesliga crisis club Schalke this summer on a first loan of a season.
The US international spent four years in Germany and made 91 appearances for Schalke, but the Bundesliga club found themselves in dire financial straits after the coronavirus pandemic.
He has impressed Juve since arriving in Italy, scoring four times in 31 appearances for the “old lady” of Italian football.
Juve said when announcing the initial loan in August that they would buy Texas-born McKennie if he achieved certain unspecified goals, and on Wednesday the club said “it’s because of that, that from today he has become a full player of Juventus “.
