Moscow [Russia], Aug 23 (ANI): After the completion of the initial research and development of the advanced S-8L guided missile, the Russian group Kalashnikov is preparing to present the new product at the International Military-Technical Forum “ARMY-2021”.
“The S-8L guided missile with semi-active homing head can be used by various carriers, including all types of helicopters or airplanes, as well as drones,” said Andrey Semenov, first deputy general manager of the Kalashnikov group. .
The advanced 80mm S-8L guided missile with HEF warhead is designed to engage single and group ground targets, both stationary and mobile. The S-8L is launched from helicopters and airplanes using the B8V20 or B8M1 rocket launchers.
The firing range of the rocket is up to 6 km. It can effectively engage lightly armored targets. During the ARMY-2021 forum, the rocket will be demonstrated integrated into a helicopter-type drone.
In addition, the Kalashnikov Group and cooperation companies are currently looking for opportunities to apply the Vikhr-1 air-launched guided missile using various types of carriers. This work is being carried out to complete a major overhaul and modernization of the Mi-28N helicopters.
Similar work is also being carried out to improve the military capability of the Mi-28UB helicopters. The possibility of adapting the Vikhr-1 guided missile for use with the Mi-28NE and Mi-35P helicopters is currently under study. The company continues to use the Vikhr-1 guided missile with the Orion-E drone.
The Kalashnikov Group, in cooperation with JSC KBP, is currently implementing R&D projects to modernize the Vikhr-1 guided missile and improve its specifications. The modernized Vikhr-1M missile will be used from Ka-52, Ka-52M as well as other carriers. (ANI)
