This year’s Texas Republican Party platform will include support for the oil and gas industry and the infrastructure needed to sustain domestic production.

Former Midland County Republican Party Chairman James Beauchamp told The Reporter-Telegram that Steven Villela, who served as Senate District 31’s delegate to the platform committee, sponsored the addition of board No. 41 – “Midland not Moscow“.

The Midland-Odessa Transportation Alliance (MOTRAN) and the Permian Basin Petroleum Association helped draft the submission.

The “Midland, Not Moscow” entry states, “We fully support and encourage greater energy production in the Permian Basin and throughout Texas, and the necessary policies and infrastructure investments in roads, pipelines and ports; to support Texas workers and help America’s energy security instead of increasing our dependence on foreign governments that benefit neither America nor our allies.

Beauchamp, Executive Director of MOTRAN, said of the addition of the platform, “Sometimes people forget that every dollar from increased domestic production helps fund jobs here in the United States, rather than increasing the resources available to some really bad actors in the world The Permian Basin is literally helping to make the world a safer place… And they also forget that sometimes we need a little extra help with our infrastructure to cope with this development. We believe this helps to send a powerful and important message.

Republicans from across the state gather in Houston for the GOP state convention.
