According to Monticello Police Chief Jason Akers, a Moscow man is facing firearms and trafficking charges after being arrested by Monticello officers early Sunday morning.
According to Akers, the department received early morning calls of shots fired near a local apartment complex along with a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
Officers located the suspect’s vehicle, later determined to be driven by Jeremiah Morgan, 35, of Moscow, Arkansas. A traffic stop was conducted for traffic violations in conjunction with the vehicle matching previously provided witness descriptions of the vehicle involved in the firearms incident.
Following the traffic stop, Morgan was found in possession of several firearms and ammunition. A .223 caliber pistol, along with a .22 caliber pistol, was found inside the vehicle by officers.
Morgan was arrested at the scene and charged with Felon possessing a firearm while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license and an improper silencer. He was transported to Drew County Jail pending a first court appearance.
Chief Akers commended neighborhood citizens for quickly and accurately reporting the incident and officers for their diligence in resolving the issue safely. “When our community and law enforcement decide not to tolerate this kind of behavior, we in return get a safer community.”
The Monticello Police Department investigation continues.
